Create Professional Development that comes to you daily!
1. Create a gmail account
2. Go to www.google.com/reader to create a reader account - this will be your daily feed of information
3. Go to http://larryferlazzo.edublogs.org/ look for the orange RSS feed button - center column under Subscribe.
Because there is no RSS feed button, there is another way to subscribe - both work
Go back to your Google Reader, find subscription on the right hand side, choose the dropdown arrow
Add subscription - type in the name - Free technology for Teachers - the top one that appears - push subscribe
5. Add others as you find people you find interesting - some suggestions

A post from 11/7 - Edublogger - A Complete Educator's Guide to Google Reader
Now that you have great website, what do you do?
Favorites vs. social bookmarking - Las Vegas vs. New puppy - stays there vs. follows you everywhere
Social Bookmarking -
Google bookmarking - https://www.google.com/bookmarks/
can make private or public lists,
can have added to a toolbar,
able to tag and sort,
good because it usually isn't filtered at school
This becomes easier if you install a google toolbar - then you don't have to cut and paste in the URL
Like http://www.diigo.com/index - watch the video on the homepage to review all the features of the program
disadvantage - blocked at our school - but I use it for my personal/professional resources and collaborating out of school with other colleagues
also has a toolbar that is awesome - or something called a diigolet that is not permanently attached to your page
Diigo's new service exclusively for teachers:http://www.diigo.com/education. The new Diigo Educator Accounts are special upgrades provided specifically to K-12 & higher-ed educators so they can easily make use of Diigo in class and with their students. Diigo provides a powerful online research tool and learning environment that allows teachers and their students or colleagues to:
add highlights and sticky notes on any web page, anywhere, and access them anywhere.
utilize group online annotations for instruction or discussions.
share and interact online findings through group bookmarks, highlights, sticky notes, and forum discussions.
and a lot more!
CNet ranks Diigo in its "Get Smart: Top 10 Research Tools" among Google, Wikepedia, etc. Please join me and many other educators who have already discovered Diigo to make use of its powerful features to prepare for classes, collaborate with colleagues, and guide students in developing solid research and learning skills!
